FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Detroit, MI. – After a successful first venture into the NTT INDYCAR SERIES and the Indianapolis 500, Abel Motorsports turns their attention and focus back to their two-car INDY NXT by Firestone effort. Jacob Abel and Colin Kaminsky will have a new challenge ahead of them as the series makes their stop to the newly designed Downtown Detroit Street Circuit for rounds 4 & 5 of the 2023 INDY NXT championship.
Series sophomore, Jacob Abel, heads to Detroit sitting 8th in the drivers’ championship after another top-ten finish at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in round 3. Abel spent the remainder of the Month of May alongside his father, Bill Abel, taking in the Indianapolis 500 and what the future could hold for the young Kentucky native.
“It was an absolute blast getting to be involved with the team during the Month of May and the Indy 500, and to get to do it with my dad. It was really eye opening in a few different areas and gave us a glimpse at what the next step up looks like but overall was just so exciting. After watching the Abel Motorsports car go around the track, I can’t wait to get back in the No. 51 in Detroit and get back to work with my Abel Construction guys,” said Jacob Abel.
Also spending the majority of May in Indianapolis with Abel Motorsports, Colin Kaminsky, heads to Detroit excited to race on a brand-new track to the entire INDY NXT paddock. With the heat expected on Friday and throughout the weekend, the drivers are truly going to be tested as they race back-to-back on Saturday and Sunday.
I’m super excited for this weekend in Detroit. it’s been a while since I’ve gotten to drive a brand-new street course, so I’m looking forward to that challenge. I also love that its fresh for every driver and team, it levels the playing field and should make for an interesting double header weekend. Doing 90 laps in 2 days, will be difficult especially with the heat so there is a lot of water in my future,” said Colin Kaminsky.
Abel Motorsports and drivers Jacob Abel and Colin Kaminsky get to work starting Friday June 2, with practice and qualifying for both races. Race 1 goes green live on Peacock at 12:00pm ET on Saturday June 3, with race 2 going green on Peacock at 12:45pm ET on Sunday June 4.
