FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Speedway, Ind. – It’s the final oval event of the 2023 INDY NXT by Firestone Championship and for Abel Motorsports, as the team heads to nearby Madison Illinois with Jacob Abel and Colin Kaminsky piloting their two Dallara IL-15’s.
Coming off of a strong rebound finish in last week’s INDY NXT by Firestone Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, series sophomore, Jacob Abel, is excited to get back on an oval. Last time Abel and the No. 51 Abel Construction car were on the oval at Iowa Speedway they claimed their first pole as a team and came home with a runner up finish.
“We had a great test at World Wide Technology Raceway when we had a series test here a few months back, and with how well Iowa went for us I really think we will be fighting for the win which will really help us in the championship fight. It’s been a great season for us so far and I think our growth has really been showing and I can’t wait to keep the momentum rolling at Gateway,” said Jacob Abel.
INDY NXT rookie, Colin Kaminsky, is back in the No. 57 Slick Locks Dallara for his first crack at an oval in an INDY NXT car. Kaminsky who re-joined the team at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, was able to shake the rust off in one day to claim 11th place. Kaminsky also joined Jacob Abel at the series test and is hoping to build off of the notes he and the Abel Motorsports team gained during those sessions.
“It’s great to be able to jump back into the car just a week after re-joining Abel Motorsports at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. While this will be my first-time racing in the INDY NXT series on an oval, getting to test here with the team and work through some things has really helped my confidence heading into this weekend. This will be a big learning curve for me, but I am confident with the car and am really going to lean on Jacob (Abel)for tips on getting around an oval. The team did an amazing job grabbing the pole at Iowa and coming home 2nd so hopefully I can tap into what the team has found and get as much speed out of the car as possible,” said Colin Kaminsky.
The INDY NXT by Firestone Outfront Showdown gets underway on Saturday August 26th with practice beginning at 8:55am CT. A quick turnaround for qualifying, which kicks off at 11:45am CT with single car runs. The 75-lap event will be streaming live on Peacock beginning at 2:30pm ET with the green flag falling shortly after that at 2:35pm CT.
