FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Lexington, OH – Another classic American road-course is on tap for Abel Motorsports as they visit the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for round 7 of the 2023 INDY NXT by Firestone championship. Driver of the No. 51 Abel Construction Dallara, Jacob Abel, heads into round 7 fresh off his 2nd place finish at Road America and sitting 4th in championship points.
Momentum is really on Abel’s side heading into the weekend after a top-five finish in Detroit, and then a career best finish of 2nd at Road America, Abel now heads to a track where he really feels at home and feels that he and the Abel Motorsports team have a great shot to break through and get both the first win for the team and driver in the INDY NXT series.
“Road America really gave us that extra boost in momentum that we needed, and heading into one of my favorite tracks on the calendar and one our team definitely has circled every year is really exciting. The Firestone tires are performing really well and giving us tons of grip, and that is going to make Mid-Ohio very exciting. We are so close to finally punching through and getting that 1st win, and I would love to be able to do that this weekend at this track,” said Jacob Abel.
Action gets underway from the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on June 30th with practice 1. Saturday is another full day of activity with the final practice session and qualifying. The INDY NXT by Firestone Grand Prix at Mid-Ohio goes green live on Peacock on Sunday July 2 at 11:25am ET.
Abel Motorsports including team Principal, Bill Abel, has been competing since 1972. Abel Motorsports is now on to the third generation with Jacob Abel being the flagship driver for the team. The team was able to capture the inaugural F3 Americas Championship in 2018, and currently competes in the freshly rebranded INDY NXT by Firestone series, the official development series for the NTT INDYCAR SERIES.
