FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Birmingham, AL – It was the last on-track activity of 2023 for ABEL Motorsports at Barber Motorsports Park, as the team now begins the preparation work for the upcoming tests at the start of 2024 followed quickly by the race season.
After a recent announcement of his return to ABEL Motorsports and the INDY NXT by Firestone series for 2024, Jacob Abel, settled right back into his No. 51 ABEL Construction Dallara at Barber. The 22-year-old American completed 75 laps on his way to topping the time sheets for the day.
“It was a very productive day for the number 51 crew at Barber,” said Jacob Abel
Abel knew going into this test how important it was for he and his ABEL Motorsports crew to work on finding a setup that was comfortable, after some difficulties at the circuit in the past.
“We got up to speed quickly which made it much easier to jump right into our list of test items for the day. Being a track that we have struggled at in the past, it was important for us to make progress with the setup and test some of the things the engineers have been working on back at the shop. We accomplished that, and feel good about coming back here in April,” said Abel.
It was a long day of running as well for series rookie, Yuven Sundaramoorthy, as he turned the most laps around the 16-turn facility coming in at 109 laps completed on the day. This was done intentionally by Sundaramoorthy’s lead engineer to again, continue the learning process and get as many laps as possible under his belt.
“We had a great test, and were able to complete a ton of laps which coming in as a rookie in 2024 will be a huge benefit,” said Sundaramoorthy.
“I still have some driving things to work on, and data to go over but I think this was another step in the right direction. I can’t wait to get to work during the off-season and come out swinging at the next test in Sebring,” exclaimed Yuven Sundaramoorthy.
Rounding out the driver lineup for ABEL Motorsports during the one-day test was Jonathan Browne, again driving the No. 5 ABEL Construction Dallara. While getting his initial laps in an INDY NXT car out of the way at the Chris Giffis test at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Browne knew that this challenge would be different due to the physical nature of the Barber Motorsports Park circuit.
“It was good to get more mileage under my belt at Barber (Motorsports Park). This track requires a lot of confidence in the car with all the fast and flowing corners,” exclaimed Browne.
“I learned a lot throughout the day about what the INDY NXT car has to offer, and I am absolutely taking some things away from this test I can work on going forward. A huge thank you to everyone at ABEL Motorsports for making this happen,” said Jonathan Browne.
While the on-track action is over for 2023, the work is just getting started for ABEL Motorsports as the team begins to get everything prepped and ready for the 2024 season, including the upcoming test dates at the beginning of the year.
