FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Speedway, Ind. – Weather once again played a part in the final INDY NXT by Firestone series test at the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, with the first of the two scheduled test days being cancelled due to the inclement weather in the area.
With Monday being a complete washout, Jacob Abel knew that he and his ABEL Motorsports crew had to make up for lost time on Tuesday and that resulted in Abel being in the car for around 4 hours straight, completing 75 laps on the day.
“It was definitely a bummer to not get on track Monday, but we more than made up for it on Tuesday running close to 4 hours without getting a break,” said Abel.
Near the top of the unofficial charts for the test, Abel was excited with what he and lead engineer Kent Boyer worked on and found with their setup.
“Our plan was to come with what we had in 2023 here, and see if we could refine it to make it stronger and I think we did just that. We had the raw speed we were hoping for, but also a very reliable and consistent car which will be great during the races,” exclaimed Abel.
After running 149 total laps in the last test at Sebring International Raceway, Yuven Sundaramoorthy knew that heading into WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca the plan would be similar with the goal of continuing to give Sundaramoorthy miles in the INDY NXT car.
“The weather definitely threw a wrench into our plans a bit, but the ABEL Motorsports crew are professionals and quickly readjusted to make sure that we could still check the items off our list that we needed to,” exclaimed Sundaramoorthy.
Similar to his teammate Jacob Abel, Sundaramoorthy felt the setup they had back in 2023 was the right direction and wanted to continue working from there to see where they could find more speed and comfort.
“We scored a top-ten at Laguna (WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca) in the final race of the season last year, so we were looking to build from there and to again just put me in the seat for as many laps as possible. I think we accomplished both of those items, running I believe around 93 laps total. Again, I have to thank all of my supporters and ABEL Motorsports, I feel 100 percent ready to get the season going, and can’t wait to see what we can do at St. Petersburg,” said Yuven Sundaramoorthy.
