FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Speedway, Ind. – The championship hunt is officially in full swing for ABEL Motorsports and series sophomore Jacob Abel, as the team kicks off a 2-week stretch of races beginning in the Pacific Northwest at the Portland International Raceway. Yuven Sundaramoorthy is also back with ABEL Motorsports for the duration of West Coast swing as he looks to gain more experience and knowledge behind the wheel of his INDY NXT by Firestone series machine.
After a hard-fought 4th place finish at the World Wide Technology Raceway, Louisville Kentucky native Jacob Abel, is looking forward to heading back to Portland International Raceway. In his rookie campaign in the INDY NXT Series, Abel managed to score his best finish of the season (4th) at Portland and really felt the momentum shift from that point on.
“Once again having to deal with the rain at Gateway threw a wrench into our plans and meant that our condensed schedule got even tighter. The ABEL Motorsports boys once again gave me a solid platform to start with but the way the dirty air affected the cars just caught us out a bit during the race. We had a super strong car last year and it gave us a huge momentum boost to finish out the year and we are expecting more of the same. We’re sitting 3rd in points and can move up further so the final 3 races are going to be very exciting,” said Jacob Abel.
Back for his second event in the INDY NXT Series, Indian American Yuven Sundaramoorthy, is excited to get back on a track he has prior experience on and build off his strong 11th place run on the Streets of Downtown Nashville.
“I’m really excited to get back in the No. 57 car this weekend in Portland, especially after taking a bit of break. Last time around in Nashville, I feel like our result was really strong, but if we can get track time this weekend, we should be even stronger. I really started to get comfortable in the car during the Nashville race so with more seat time this weekend my comfortability will for sure go up,” said Yuven Sundaramoorthy.
The West Coast swing begins on Friday September 1st with the opening practice session for the INDY NXT by Firestone series. Practice 2 and qualifying follow, on Saturday September 2nd, with all practice and qualifying sessions streaming live on INDYCAR Live.
