Speedway, Ind. – Round 3 of the 2023 INDY NXT by Firestone Championship rolls into the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend, for what will be the start to an incredibly busy Month of May for Abel Motorsports.
After a disappointing race at the Barber Motorsports Park for series sophomore, Jacob Abel, the weekend on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road-course is a welcome sight for Abel and the No. 51 Abel Construction team.
“Barber obviously did not go how we had wanted at all, so to head to Indy, a place where we tested very well at earlier in the year to rebound is exciting. The number of laps that I have turned here, and the experience from last year will really be helpful, especially with such a deep field.
Consistency this year is incredibly important in terms of the championship, so with us being in 4th in points we are right there in the championship fight making every point that much more critical. Obviously, the goal this weekend is a win, but also to gain as many points as possible and come home with solid points haul,” said Jacob Abel.
Fresh off his first INDY NXT top-ten, Colin Kaminsky heads to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway ready to get right up to speed on the short race weekend, that sees the INDY NXT drivers on track for practice and qualifying on Friday.
“I’m ecstatic to be racing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend. It looks like it is going to be a quick and tight weekend with just 1 practice, and if it rains it could make the weekend much shorter. There are a lot of variables this weekend that are going to make it exciting, you are going to have to go out there and throw your best laps down right away and call it a day. The field here is insanely tight with everyone having logged so many laps here in junior categories and testing, so the viewers at the track and at home on Peacock are in for a treat on Saturday,” said Colin Kaminsky.
The INDY NXT by Firestone drivers and teams get things underway on Friday May 12th with practice and qualifying, followed by the INDY NXT by Firestone Grand Prix on Saturday May 13th with coverage on Peacock beginning at 1:00pm ET.
