FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Speedway, Ind. – Taking his next step on the journey to the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, 20-year-old Yuven Sundaramoorthy has signed with Abel Motorsports to get his first taste of INDY NXT by Firestone action piloting the No. 57 Dallara IL-15 as he sets his sights on being the first Indian American to compete in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES and the Indianapolis 500. Yuven also aims to be the next Wisconsin drive in INDYCAR, which hasn’t been seen in three decades.
The Wisconsin native made the switch from Karts to cars in 2017 and has not looked back, steadily progressing through the lower junior formulas as he works his way towards the NTT INDYCAR SERIES. The 2021 season was a breakout year for the driver of Indian descent, as he was able to capture four wins, nine podiums, and thirteen top-tens on his way to a third-place finish in the 2021 USF20000 Championship. Sundaramoorthy is also the first Indian American to win an INDYCAR-sanctioned race,
when he broke through at Barber Motorsports Park in 2021. Yuven has spent the beginning of the 2023 season competing for Exclusive Autosport in the USF Pro 2000 Championship where to date he has grabbed five top-10 in his sophomore season in the series.
Yuven will join Abel Motorsports for three INDY NXT events in 2023 starting with the street-course in Downtown Nashville, followed up by the final two rounds of the season at the Portland International Raceway and WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.
“I’m really excited to get the call from Abel Motorsports to drive the No. 57 Dallara in the INDY NXT by Firestone Championship. The team has really been coming on strong lately and showing that they have the pace to compete, so for me this really gives me an opportunity to show what I can do in this series. I know the learning curve is going to be there switching to a bigger car with more power, but I think having the teammates I do with me at Abel Motorsports will help shorten that curve. I can’t thank S Team Motorsports LLC, One Motorsports Management, and OMP enough for their help and partnership in making this happen,” said Yuven Sundaramoorthy.
“I’ve had the privilege to work with and manage Yuven since 2018. He is a true professional both on and off the track. I’m proud to see him take the next step into INDY NXT with Abel Motorsports and this mix of races will be a good baseline as he prepares for 2024” said Pieter Rossi, One Motorsport Management, Principal.
The first opportunity for Yuven Sundaramoorthy will be on August 6th when the INDY NXT series rolls into Nashville, Tennessee for the INDY NXT by Firestone Music City Grand Prix. All practice and qualifying sessions are streamed live on INDYCAR LIVE and also on INDYCAR Radio. The green flag drops on August 6th at 9:15am ET and will be streamed live flag to flag on the Peacock app.
Abel Motorsports including team Principal, Bill Abel, has been competing since 1972. Abel Motorsports is now on to the third generation with Jacob Abel being the flagship driver for the team. The team was able to capture the inaugural F3 Americas Championship in 2018, and currently competes in the freshly rebranded INDY NXT by Firestone series, the official development series for the NTT INDYCAR SERIES.
