Adversity Filled Weekend for ABEL Motorsports at the Detroit Grand Prix

–         Jack William Miller scores third top ten finish of 2025 season

Speedway, Ind. (June 3, 2025) – The annual trip North to the Downtown Streets of Detroit and the Detroit Grand Prix, was one that was filled with adversity for ABEL Motorsports and their four-car lineup as the tight confines of the nine-turn street-course proved treacherous.

After earning his INDY NXT career best finish of eighth during the Grand Prix of Alabama, Jack William Miller bested that result with a seventh-place finish on the Streets of Detroit in his No. 40 Patterson Dental/HomeLink machine.

“Detroit was a difficult weekend, but I feel like the race really made up for it, especially considering the pace that we had,” said Jack William Miller.

Starting the race from the 10th position, Miller had his eyes set on avoiding the carnage that is common on street circuits while strategically working his way forward through the field.

“We missed it a little bit on setup in qualifying, but we knew that our car had excellent race pace so we were just focused on moving forward and avoiding as many of the wrecks as we could. We accomplished both of those, but unfortunately on the last restart I was hit breaking my front wing which ultimately put me in the wall and took away our shot at a top-five finish. I can’t thank the entire ABEL Motorsports team enough for their belief in me and always giving me fast cars,”.

New Zealander, Callum Hedge, lead the charge for ABEL Motorsports during the qualifying session coming home in the sixth position. Scoring his first series podium at Detroit in 2024, Hedge knew that avoiding the early cautions and staying out of trouble would be crucial to advance higher during the race.

“Detroit is such a tough track, between the bumps and the close confines of the concrete walls, there really is no margin for error,” explained Hedge.

Unfortunately an opening lap incident saw Hedge make slight contact with a car in front, resulting in a stop and hold penalty that Hedge would have to battle back from.

“We made some slight contact with a car in front of us on the opening lap as everyone was slamming on their brakes to avoid the massive pileup in turn four. Ultimately we ended up getting a stop and hold penalty that took away our shot at the podium, but we battled back as best we could to grab as many championship points as possible. I have full confidence in my team and am ready to switch gears a bit and get ready for some oval racing,” stated Hedge.

Getting his first taste of the tricky Detroit streets, Jordan Missig fought through adversity all weekend to bring the No. 48 Nexus Towing car home in the 12th position.

“Lots of bumps in the road, no pun intended, with Detroit. We were behind the 8 ball after the first practice session and we were able to make time back up, we just didn’t execute the way we expected,” said Missig.

Working diligently with lead engineer Phil Arscott, Missig felt that he and his Dallara IL-15 had the pace to be running in the top five for the race.

“The car had the pace for a top five result, and I wanted to get that for the ABEL crew, they work so hard for us I really wanted to reward them with a strong finish. Thankfully we are back on track quickly, and that goal of a top five now moves on to World Wide Technology Raceway,” said Missig.

A major fan of street courses, Myles Rowe was looking forward to the weekend in the Motor City, but ultimately had his chance at a solid finish taken away on the first lap in the turn 4 pileup, getting tapped from behind and sent into the wall requiring extensive repairs.

“I was thrilled to see the massive crowd and fan support from everyone at the Detroit Grand Prix, I think it truly showed that not only is the NTT INDYCAR SERIES growing, but so too is the INDY NXT by Firestone series,” stated Myles Rowe.

Rolling off from the seventh position on the grid, Rowe was keen to get to work early and grab as many spots as possible during the opening few laps.

“We weren’t able to compete or really finish the race due to someone hitting us from behind, but the team was able to learn a lot and as a group we are looking forward to resuming the positive momentum we had after Indianapolis,” said Rowe.

Next up for ABEL Motorsports and their four drivers is a one day series test at the Iowa Speedway on June 9th, ahead of the first oval event of the season at World Wide Technology Raceway on June 15th.
