Jacob Abel Back with Growing Abel Motorsports Team for 2023 Indy Lights Season

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Speedway, Ind. (September 22, 2022) – Louisville native Jacob Abel re-joins family run team, Abel Motorsports, for the 2023 Indy Lights Championship. Abel will continue to pilot the No. 51 Abel Construction Dallara, where in his rookie season he managed to score 5 top-5 finishes with a highest finish of 4th.

“I’m really excited to be back with the team in 2023. We were able to build a strong foundation and the difference between us at the first race of the season in St. Pete and now is amazing. There were definitely some results that slipped away from us for one reason or another, but we knew this was going to be a building year for both the team and me personally,” said Jacob Abel.

Team manager, John Brunner, has been around the Indy Lights series for several years and has contributed to the careers of many successful NTT IndyCar Series drivers and teams. Brunner was impressed with Abel’s rookie campaign that saw Abel finish 8th in the drivers championship

“Jacob has shown tremendous amounts of progress this year, and it was really exciting to watch. He is really growing into his own as a race car driver, as is the team we have been able to build around him. I think 2023 will be a great year for Jacob and all of Abel Motorsports, now that the first season is under our belt we can really go out and fight for race wins,” said John Brunner.

Abel Motorsports is also once again planning on expanding past just a single car entry, in favor of a multi-car entry for the 2023 Indy Lights season. The team is currently evaluating its options for the remaining seats as well as actively seeking out additional team members to join the expanding Speedway, IN based operation.

Off-season testing ahead of the 2023 Indy Lights season gets kicked off on October 21st with the annual Chris Griffis Memorial test on the 14-turn road course at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  Abel Motorsports including team Principal, Bill Abel, has been competing since 1972. Abel Motorsports is now on to the third generation with Jacob Abel being the flagship driver for the team. The team was able to capture the inaugural F3 Americas Championship in 2018, and currently competes in the top rung of the Road to Indy ladder, the Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires Championship.
