FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Speedway, Ind. (May 13, 2022) – Abel Motorsports is ready to take on the road course at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with their 2-car effort of Jacob Abel and Ryan Phinny. Heading into rounds 3 & 4 of the Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires Championship, the teams lead driver Jacob Abel finds himself sitting 8th in the championship.
While Jacob Abel has not raced at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in an Indy Lights car, he has run quite a few laps between the Chris Griffis Memorial test session, and the series test back in April. Each session, Abel demonstrated his speed and was consistently towards the top of the charts.
“Indianapolis is always a fun event for me. Going to Butler University, I’ve been fortunate enough to call Indianapolis home for the past few years, and with that it makes this weekend even bigger with my friends, family, and sponsors coming to the track. The expectations for this weekend are pretty high. The Barber and St. Pete weekends were both a little bit of a letdown, given our pace in testing. With that being said, the season coming into full swing finally, we’re ready to get going and build some momentum,” said Jacob Abel.
Recent addition to the team, Ryan Phinny, will be making his first start at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in an Indy Lights car. Phinny does have previous experience on the road course, driving both in Formula BMW and sports cars.
“I’m looking forward to the races this weekend. I’m starting behind the eight-ball compared to all the other drivers in the field, but I truly think that only makes me hungrier to produce a good result. I’m going to lean on the team and my teammate Jacob and see if we can’t get both Abel Motorsports cars to the front,” said Ryan Phinny.
The Indy Lights Grand Prix of Indianapolis gets going on May 13 with practice qualifying and race 1. Race 1 will see the green flag at 5:35pm ET. Race 2 on May 14th will see the green flag at 1:20pm ET. All races will be streamed live on the Peacock app. You can keep up with Abel Motorsports throughout this event, and the rest of the season by following @abelmotorsports on social media.
