Abel Motorsports Making First Trip to the Detroit Grand Prix

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Speedway, Ind. (June 2, 2022) – Abel Motorsports fresh off their first top-5 finish at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, is making their first trip to the Detroit Grand Prix for rounds 5 & 6 of the 2022 Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires Championship.

After an impressive drive, in treacherous conditions during the second race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Butler University student Jacob Abel delivered Abel Motorsports their best result so far of the 2022 season. Abel knows that he has a different challenge ahead of him this weekend, in learning a track he has not previously raced on, but is excited to see how he and the team respond.

“The last race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, really gave me and the team a boost. We were able to show the speed that we have had during testing, and it felt great to get a top-five. Heading into Detroit we know it will be tough because I have never raced here, but that’s exciting. I love racing on street courses, so I can’t wait to see what we’re able to come up with this weekend,” said Jacob Abel

Making his return to Abel Motorsports, once again in the No. 61 car is Ryan Phinny. After making his return to the cockpit of a Dallara IL-15 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Phinny is excited for another opportunity to continue learning and another pair of races in the Indy Lights machine.

“It has been such a big confidence boost for me getting to work with such a great team, and also having the support from my new partners. I’m excited to welcome aboard MGM Grand Detroit and MGM Resorts International as partners, and to start what I hope is a great long-term relationship. I’d also like to thank the Nashville Predators organization for their continued confidence and support,” said Ryan Phinny.

The Indy Lights Detroit Grand Prix kicks off on Friday June 3rd with a 50-minute practice session. Saturday June 4th has the weekends sole qualifying session followed by the first of two races going green at 11:30am. The final race of the weekend goes green at 12:10pm, with all races live on the Peacock app. Follow the action all weekend long by following @abelmotorsports on social media.
