Abel Motorsports Heads South for Round 2 of the INDY NXT by Firestone Championship at Barber Motorsports Park

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Leeds, AL. – Abel Motorsports fresh off the team’s first INDY NTX by Firestone podium at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, now turns their attention to the 16-turn natural terrain road-course at Barber Motorsports Park.

An impressive run on the Streets of St. Petersburg that included 27-laps lead, has placed Jacob Abel 3rd in the drivers’ championship standings heading to Barber. The Louisville KY. native is looking forward to carrying the momentum into a track that last year he found success at, driving from 10th on the grid in the rain to a strong 6th place finish.

“I really feel like St. Pete showed what this team and I are capable of, and that we are going to be a force to be reckoned with this year. I think with what we were able to find here (Barber Motorsports Park) last year in terms of setup, will really come to help us this year. With the forecast being a bit iffy, the experience I got last year in the wet just gives us that much more information should we need it this weekend. I really think we are going to have another strong weekend in the No. 51 Abel Construction Dallara,” said Jacob Abel.

Colin Kaminsky now with his first taste of INDY NXT by Firestone racing under his belt, heads into Barber Motorsports Park with some confidence after his strong debut weekend in Florida. Kaminsky is bringing his experience of Barber Motorsports Park with him this weekend, as the Illinois native has previously competed at Barber 3 times with a best finish of 2nd last season in USF Pro 2000 competition.

“It felt so good to get the debut weekend completed and get into the groove of working with Abel Motorsports. I feel like we showed great pace at St. Pete, and I was able to take a few things away driving wise to work on that I think will only make us stronger at Barber. I really enjoy racing at this track and just the environment here, it really is the Augusta of racetracks with how pristine everything is. I was able to find some success here last year, and I really think that coupled with what I learned at St. Pete, means our Slick Locks No. 57 car should be really strong,” said Colin Kaminsky.

Round 2 of the 2023 INDY NXT by Firestone championship gets underway on Friday April 28th with practice 1, followed on Saturday with practice 2 and qualifying. The INDY NXT by Firestone Grand Prix of Alabama goes green on Sunday April 30th.
