Career-best for Yuven Sundaramoorthy as Jacob Abel locks in double front row start
Monterey, Calif (June 22, 2024) – Both ABEL Motorsports drivers delivered strong performances in Saturday morning’s double-qualifying session at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. The double-header event weekend set on the Monterey Peninsula marks the midway point of the 2024 INDY NXT by Firestone season, with Indianapolis-based ABEL Motorsports entering the event holding the lead in the championship standings with Jacob Abel.
First-year INDY NXT pilot Yuven Sundaramoorthy posted his career-best qualifying effort so far by locking in a third row start for both races, while Abel will look to make the most of his second row start in both Saturday and Sunday’s races.
“We’re definitely getting there,” said Abel after the session. “We improved a lot on the parts that we were struggling with yesterday, but now we’re not as good on the parts we were good at yesterday. But with how close the series is you have to just keep improving. It is great to make progress and hopefully we can make the right adjustments for the race. Yuven had a great session, and props to Caio (Collet) on his session, he did really well. Now we will just work to make the most of the race this afternoon.”
“I’m really happy with how that went,” Sundaramoorthy told INDYCAR Radio. “It is my best qualifying so far. I think I figured it out just a little bit late in the session – I was up on my lap where the tires were at their peak but then I backed off to get a cleaner run in traffic and caught a couple cars making a gap. So in the end, that was the peak of the tire and I just missed it. But these Firestones are really grippy and I am happy with this session and just looking forward to carrying this momentum into the race today.”
