Speedway, Ind. (March 3, 2023) – Abel Motorsports is kicking off their 2023 INDY NXT by Firestone campaign with a two-car effort spearheaded by sophomore driver Jacob Abel, and series rookie, Colin Kaminksy.
Abel will be making his 4th trip to the Streets of St. Petersburg, and his second time in the Dallara IL-15. The 21-year-old Louisville native will be making his 15th INDY NXT by Firestone start.
“It’s great to get another season of INDY NXT by Firestone going, and especially here in Florida. I really enjoy racing at St. Petersburg, the whole environment of the event is great. The entire team put in so much work during the off season, and I can’t wait to get 2023 underway,” said Jacob Abel
Colin Kaminsky joins Abel Motorsports for his first taste of INDY NXT by Firestone competition. No stranger to the Streets of St. Petersburg, Kaminsky will be making his 12th start at the circuit. Fresh off of two test sessions at Homestead Miami Speedway, Kaminsky feels confident as he heads into the opening round of the 2023 season.
I’m amped to get the season under way this weekend at St. Pete. Abel Motorsports and I have had two good test days on the new Firestone rubber, and I’m excited to put what we’ve practiced into battle. Obviously, this is my first INDY NXT By Firestone race which is a big step in my career, but with the prep the team and I have done I feel confident we can have a competitive weekend. We’re going to give it our all and take it all in,” said Colin Kaminsky.
The 2023 INDY NXT by Firestone season gets underway on March 3rd with practice 1. Practice 2 and qualifying take place on March 4th, with the green flag for the INDY NXT by Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg waving on March 5th at 10:00am ET.
